Speaking of Making with Sarah Hobbs: Artist Talk and Walkthrough for Volumes Project Residency

  • Bentley Rare Book Museum, Kennesaw State University, Sturgis Library Ground Floor 385 Cobb Avenue Kennesaw, GA, 30144 United States (map)

Free + open to the public

The Bentley Rare Book Museum partners with AIR Serenbe to present 2018 artist-in-residence Sarah Hobbs for a special artist talk and walkthrough as part of the Volumes Residency Project. Hobbs' artistic interpretation of marginalia for this project, inspired by the collections in the Bentley Rare Book Museum, pushes beyond the idea of simply reading rare books and instead focuses on the experience of rare books. Hobbs' work examines how marginalia serves as evidence of active, intentional interactions with books. Rather than viewing marginalia as a defacement of books, Hobbs presents marginalia as human engagement with the printed word and as a meaningful form of art.
