Isa Borgeson

Isa is the 2019 recipient of the SWACC! Focus Fellowship, awarded to a spoken word artist with commitment to community and collaboration.

Isabella β€œIsa” Borgeson is a queer, multiracial Filipina American writer and educator from Oakland, California. She has received fellowships from Voices of Our Nation Art Foundation and the Poetry Incubator through Poetry Foundation and Crescendo Literary. In 2015, Isa performed at the United Nations Climate Change negotiations in Paris for COP21, where she spoke out about the impact of climate change on her mother's hometown in the Philippines devastated by super typhoon Haiyan. Isa's writing has appeared in CNN, the Inquirer, BOAAT Press, and more. Her commitment toward teaching poetry as a tool for resistance keeps her grounded in her communities across the Pacific Ocean.
