Marco Buccelli

In residence January 2 - January 14, 2018

Marco is a 2018 artist-in-residence with Transient Project Residency, a collaboration between AIR Serenbe and ArtsATL. The Transient Project Residency supports musicians and composers to explore new directions in their work.

Simplicity is key in Marco Buccelli’s complex sound. He’s all about translating big ideas by manipulating minimal elements. Buccelli uses triggers, effects pedals, samplers and modular synths to explore acoustics, analog and digital technologies. Like subatomic particles have the mind bending capacity of being in two places at once, his distinctive drumming exists simultaneously in both modern and contemporary popular music. Marco’s playing shifts seamlessly from robotic drum machine to a soulful human feel.

Born in Napoli, the volcanic metropolis of southern Italy, Marco moved to the U.S. in 2007. His debut solo record, Hypercube - Le Cose Grandi e Le Cose Piccole  was released by El Gallo Rojo in 2011. In NYC Marco co-founded record label Jaba Jaba Music through which he produced and released Xenia Rubinos’ debut Magic Trix . Rubinos’ sophomore album Black Terry Cat (ANTI- 2016) which he also produced and drummed on earned wide critical acclaim including being named in the Top 10 albums of the year by the New York Times and NPR. Marco’s drumming and production can also be heard on albums by Neapolitan songwriter Giovanni Truppi as well as American singer-songwriter Lady Lamb among others.

Marco tours the U.S. and Europe extensively, albums he has drummed on and produced have been released by record labels such as ANTI-, Mom+Pop, Everlasting Records, WoodWorm, Ba Da Bing Records, Trovarobato, El Gallo Rojo.
