Filmer: A Premiere of Original Short Films About AIR Serenbe Artists

  • Rich Theatre, Woodruff Arts Center (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

A one-of-a-kind project featuring Georgia filmmakers producing films about some of the most interesting artists in the country.

AIR Serenbe nurtures critical moments of imagination. Filmer brings to life the untapped creative energy of emerging and established Georgia filmmakers by pairing them with high caliber artists from all over the country. In this match up, we commission filmmakers to make an original short portrait film that illuminates something of the artist’s person and process. We give the filmmakers full creative control over the films, pay them an honorarium, provide them with a residency, and honor them as the artists they are. At the end of the year, we present a premiere of all Filmer films to a live audience in a large theater in Atlanta.

This year, we will produce and premiere 16 new films by 14 filmmakers.

Childhood by Design

  • Rich Theatre, Woodruff Arts Center (map)

Childhood By Design brings artists, architects, urbanists, and designers together with early childhood experts, policymakers, and the general public. This conversation will seek to explore and harness the power of art, architecture, design, and placemaking to reimagine the unique experience of childhood, to improve outcomes, and to co-create a brighter future for all young children and their families.

This year’s panel conversation with Christopher Moses, Itai Palti, and Kimberly Lucas is presented by AIR Serenbe and Capita in partnership with the Woodruff Arts Center.

Childhood By Design is free and open to the public, but reservations are required.

Panelist Bios:

Doug Shipman is President and Chief Executive Officer of the Woodruff Arts Center, home to the Alliance Theatre, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and the High Museum of Art.

Itai Palti is Director of Hume, a science informed architecture and urban design practice. In 2015, Itai founded the Conscious Cities movement; a new field of research and practice for building people-centric environments that are aware and responsive using data analysis, AI, tech, and behavioral science in design.

Kimberly Lucas is the Civic Research Director in the City of Boston’s Office of New Urban Mechanics. Part researcher, part practitioner, and part muppet, Kim has consistently kept one foot in the ivory tower and one foot on the ground, pairing research with practice to seek real solutions to social policy and planning problems.
